Stephen Cleobury directed them in Purcell's "Hear my prayer, O Lord", and seemed please with the results. He later commented: "We greatly enjoyed welcoming you all to the chapel: the children The rehearsal he referred to was for evensong that evening, and we all learnt a lot from watching the interaction between him and the choristers, admiring their focus and musicianship. Many parents came to support, which was nice, and we are hoping to make a return visit in the summer term. This week sees Chesterton Singers, Percussion Ensemble, Orchestra and Recorder Consort at West Road fo r the Cambridgeshire Music Festival. Wish us luck! Champions Year 10/11 basketball final: They did it! The team is now recognised as the best in Cambridgeshire. In the County final, Chesterton played against the Thomas Deacon Academy from Peterborough. After taking an early lead, the students played some excellent basketball and eventually won comfortably by 72-30. They'll now represent Cambridgeshire in the national schools cup competition. Look out for an article that will appear in the Cambridge Evening News very soon!. Kings! Monday February 1st, King's College Chapel - and four of our students have the opportunity to watch and listen to Bryn Terfel in rehearsal for a charity concert to be held that evening...... Niels. Alex, Daniel and Billy all have experience in vocal music, and were intrigued at the way Bryn used his voice in rehearsal - never really getting out of second gear, but occasionally filling his chest, thus causing the fan vaulting to vibrate as it sensed the vibrations from far below! They were well pleased when, during a break in proceedings, Bryn came over to speak to them - not at all condescending, and genuinely interested to hear what the students had to say. He was very low key, but yet made it evident that he thoroughly enjoyed his chosen career. It was a great opportunity, and all four boys and their teacher got a lot from the experience. Sporting Success Four current Chesterton students and three ex-students performed brilliantly in the recent County cross country championships at Royston Heath. Year 7: Jade Asensi finished 5th and will now represent the County team Max Laslett finished 12th and will now represent the County team Year 8: Eve Smyth finished 21st (running against year 9 girls!) Year 9: Kieran Wood finished 27th (unfortunately picked up a knee injury on the way round) Year 12: Becky Carter (1st), Ben Whittle (4th) and Jenni Corbett (13th) all qualified to represent Cambs. The notable achievement for January was Liam Addison's performance in winning the tournament played between Chesterton and The Perse shool for boys. Sam Walsh (year 7) was part of the Cambridge under 12 boys hockey team, which recently won the annual South of England hockey tournament - very high standard! The under 16 boys basketball team has progressed to the final of the Cambridge district tournament. They've played some outstanding basketball this year and are currently unbeaten in all fixtures. The team: Owen Munby, Alex Brown, Matt Craig, Dan Curdy, Josh Butler, Jake Kaynak, Joe Acanfora, Ivan Tomov, Jack Campbell and Nick Ward Celebrating Year 8 and 9 students!Year 8 - Form award went to 8.1 with a total of an average or 39 points per pupil, second was 8.7 with 37 points per pupil and 3rd 8.6 with 36.4.
