New Build

As you may be aware there will be a significant demand for additional school places in Cambridge from 2017 and the local authority is working with schools to ensure that this demand can be met. Chesterton has agreed to take an additional two forms of entry so that we will be able to continue to accommodate all the children currently in our feeder primaries. That means that in a few years’ time we will be a school of 1,200 students. Clearly to ensure that we have the facilities for these increased numbers it is important that we have significant investment on our site.

Cambridgeshire County Council have agreed to invest ten million pounds into a project that will see our current site transformed. As with everything this is subject to planning permission and various procedures. The project is incredibly exciting.

There will be:

a new main hall and dining hall; the existing Farnsworth and Rex Freeman Halls will be redeveloped to provide new classroom accommodation; two courtyard spaces, replacing the area where cars currently park, will be created; entirely redeveloped Art and DT spaces, which will allow us to further enhance our curriculum offers in these subjects, are planned; developments to science and an enhanced entrance to the site are also included.

As with all projects until the first spade starts digging there is never absolute certainty, but all being well we have an opportunity to bring our building completely into the twenty-first century. Please take a look at some of the images of the plans below.
