After a winter of poor England cricket results, it’s fantastic to be able to report on recent achievements by students at Chesterton – supported by high levels of participation, and hopefully lots of fun along the way!

Power to Inspire!
Year 8 students were given every opportunity to be inspired recently, when taking part in a swimming event organised by a charity which aims to raise money for people who live without limbs.
John W swam for more than 70 minutes in order to successfully complete a 2km challenge. This was the launch of his attempt to swim at least a kilometre in at least fifty schools in fifty days, as a means of raising awareness of people who cope with the loss of limbs. He himself has no arms or legs.
He was also accompanied by Fran Williamson, a local Paralympic swimmer.
Collections on the day, combined with money raised from a non-uniform day helped to raise in excess of £1000.
Cross Country Success
The following students from Chesterton qualified to take part in the 2014 County Schools Cross Country Competition in Ely: Marlene O, Alice T, Rebecca B, Joe B, Jordan W, Alice K, Hannah H.
Excellent results included a great performance from Alice K in finishing 12th in the intermediate girls race, and from Jordan W in finishing 1st in the intermediate boys race – this matches his performance in the County Cross Country Open Competition earlier in the month.
Sports Leader Update
Almost forty year 10 students from Chesterton are currently delivering PE lessons at local primary schools as part of their level 1 sports leader award.
Approximately 200 primary school students will descend on Chesterton next week for the annual hockey festival – all organisation and umpiring will be undertaken by year 9 students from Chesterton.
Year 9 students were also referees at the recent primary school football tournament.

The Under 15 Cambridge District Schools representative team has over-achieved again this year in relation to the size of the Districts/Counties taking part in the national cup. The team will soon play its quarter final game against Bristol schools, at Histon football club.

Basketball teams qualify for the District finals
For the sixth year in a row, our basketball teams have qualified for the district finals. The teams have clearly progressed throughout the year, and will hope to bring the silverware home when they play their respective finals at Long Road Sixth Form College next week.
Girls football is thriving!
Our year 7 & 8 girls footballs teams have been taking part in the County schools Grand Prix throughout this academic year. We’ve been able to field up to five teams – all are progressing well, and one of the teams currently holds first position in the league – watch this space!
